Delving into the History of Kumbhalgarh Fort in Rajasthan

Kumbhalgarh Fort’s story in Rajasthan begins in the 15th century, commissioned by the mighty Rana Kumbha of the Mewar dynasty. Construction commenced in 1443 and continued for several decades, with subsequent rulers adding their own contributions to the fort’s grandeur. The fort served as a crucial strategic stronghold for the Mewar rulers. Its impregnable location atop a high ridge, coupled with its formidable defenses, made it nearly impossible to conquer. In fact, the fort remained undefeated in battle throughout its history, with the only capture occurring through a cunning ploy involving the poisoning of the fort’s water supply by the Mughal emperor Akbar.
